The Freckles Project began in 2018 as a quiet portrait study centered around individuality, softness, and self-perception. Inspired by the natural beauty of freckles and the emotional honesty of portraiture, I invited a small group of young women to participate in a series exploring visibility, vulnerability, and the way we learn to see ourselves.
Many of the women photographed spoke openly about struggles with confidence, self-image, or feeling unseen. What interested me was not perfection, but presence. Through these portraits, I wanted each person to experience themselves with a different kind of tenderness and attention.
Looking back, this project now feels like an early reflection of the themes that continue to shape Calderón Foto today. Human connection, emotional honesty, and portraiture as a space for recognition rather than performance.
